return to frsa home Minutes of October 9, 2002 FRSA Business Meeting Submitted by Mike Bricker, FRSA Secretary, USDA-REE-ARS, National Center for Genetic Resources Preservation (NCGRP), Fort Collins, Colorado The October 9, 2002 FRSA Business Meeting was held at STA Laboratories, Longmont, Colorado. The meeting hosts were Barbara Atkins and Mary Loring. Our thanks to Barbara and Mary. Following the meeting, Barbara conducted a tour of STA Laboratories’ new facilities. Members present at the meeting were Barbara Atkins, Mike Bricker, Jim Bruce, Pat Conine, Mike Dideriksen, Cheryl Johnson, Mary Loring, Annette Miller, Karen Nastick, Jim Stanelle, and Laurie Thoma. The meeting was called to order by Cheryl Johnson, President, at 1:22 PM MST. The minutes of the July 19, 2002 FRSA Seed Analyst Forum and Business Meeting were approved as provided on the FRSA web site: www.frsa.org . Pat Conine presented the Treasurer’s report, which was found to be in good standing. Annette Miller presented the Web Site Administrators report. The FRSA name domain has been purchased for the next 5 years, through 2007. The Outreach Committee report was presented by Laurie Thoma. The Mobile Investigations Project continues to be a work-in-progress. The critique of the Project at the July Seed Analyst Forum will be helpful in the development of the format for the Project. A target date of Spring 2003 is set for presentation of the Project to the Colorado State University Mobile Investigations Program. An update of the Seed Technology Educational Program (STEP) responsible for the Seed Analysis Distance Education Courses was presented by Jim Bruce. The SeedImage Database is now available on the Internet at www.seedimages.com , and is available by subscription. Details about subscription fees are available at the database web site. Arnold Larsen is collecting seed samples of vegetables, flowers, and herbs. Arnold will begin photographing these species in the near future. These photographs will be incorporated into the SeedImage Database. Should anyone have samples of any seed kind which may be of value for seed identification, a sample of the seed kind can be sent to the Colorado Seed Laboratory, c/o Arnold Larsen, Colorado State University, Dept. of Soil and Crop Sciences, Plant Sciences Bldg., Fort Collins, CO 80523. In ‘Other Old Business’, Laurie Thoma reported that Part 2: Determining Pure Seed in Specific Grass Species referee is now available on the FRSA web site and the AOSA web site. The deadline date has been extended (past the September 30, 2002 deadline), and a request is made to those individuals whom participated in the original referee to participate in Part 2. Barbara Atkins reported the SCST Training Manual has been updated. For information regarding the SCST Training Manual, access the SCST web site at www.seedtechnology.net . New Business Election of 2003-4 FRSA Officers was held. Mike Bricker reported the 2003 FRSA membership renewal letters will be mailed in December. The 2003 Anna Lute Award Nominations letter will be sent to the editors of the Seed Technologist Newsletter, for publication in the February 2003 issue. The Nominations letter will also be accessible on the FRSA web site. The CSGA Presentation Committee update was provided by Mike Bricker. Presentation topics were discussed and topics assigned to individual FRSA members for development. FRSA is providing the educational presentation at the Colorado Seed Growers Association (CSGA) and Colorado Seed Industry Annual Meeting on the afternoon of December 5th at the University Park Holiday Inn, Fort Collins, Colorado. In ‘Other New Business’, Barbara Atkins announced she is the new Examinations Director for ISST. Barbara is the outgoing chair of the SCST Examination Committee. There being no additional business, the meeting adjourned at 3:05 PM. A tour of the new STA facilities immediately followed the meeting. The next FRSA meeting will be on Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at 1:00 PM MST, at the National Center for Genetic Resources Preservation (NCGRP), 1111 South Mason Street, Fort Collins, Colorado.
